I’m going shopping tonight at a Maggie Sottero boutique, on the hunt for a plus-sized gown. At the moment, I’m a size 16 (top) and 18 (hips/bum) and I’m suffering from all the normal fears associated with shopping for a dress. You all know what i mean.
Is there anyone out there who would be willing to post a picture of their dress and the name of the dress? I really (and I mean REALLY) like the look of the Maude dress, but I don’t know if that will look good on me.
My mother is encouraging me to “cover it up” and is kind of pushing for a ball gown, preferably with straps/sleeves/little jacket. I don’t think that’s the right attitude to have, so I’m open to whatever looks right. Straps, no straps, whatever.
Do you think straps are the way to go? Will I be spilling out of my dress if I go for strapless?
Thanks for reading…

I wore Maggie Sottero Kendra in Alabaster for my wedding last month. I LOVED my dress, and I wear a size 16. I think “covering it up” is the wrong way to go. I loved the way this dress hugged my curves, and I wore it proudly. Maude is beautiful, but I can see where spillage might be a problem. You have to try it, though! Good luck!!

I wore Maggie Sottero’s Vogue Royal in light gold with a diamond white overlay. Sadly she was discontinued. My dress was a size 14.
Have fun tonight, if your salon allows you make sure you take lots of pictures. You will enjoy looking at the pictures after.

- Wedding: May 2013 - Walt Disney World
This is me in my Priscilla gown (don’t mind my silly face staring at myself in the mirror, lol). The sample is a 10 but I ordered a 14 (hoping to alter down to a 12 before the wedding, though). I told the saleswoman that I had concerns about my arms and back when looking for a dress, and she took one look at me and said that she didn’t envision me covering up at all (I initially wanted to try the Perla Lynette that has a cap sleeve-like top but they didn’t have a sample of that there, although I tried on a similar style by Sottero & Midgley and didn’t care for it.). I think if you find a dress you really love, you won’t even think so much about your arms. That being said, you can always add a little cap sleeve to a strapless dress, if you are very worried about it. I personally don’t like the look of spaghetti straps (it just looks like they cut in to the skin too much). Good luck on your search!

I forgot to add, I am self consious about my arms, and my back (I have scars on my back) So I wore my veil pretty much all day. It made me feel a lot better to have it there.

Here I am in the Juliette dress by Maggie Sottero. The sample size was a 6 (eek!) but I managed to get it on. I’d have to order in a size 16.

@Maria444: I’m a size 12 and I got the Maude. It is a super flattering dress. That ruching + the corset just sucks you right in! If you are really busty, you might feel a bit self concious in it. Only way to know is to try it! 🙂

Goodluck! Maggie Sottero has a LOT of different options and she does amazing work!

@Mrs.LetsGoPens: Wow – you are beautiful!

@AdriannaJean: I tried on the Lorie, which was similar to the dress you posted. I found the beaded lace REALLY itchy on my arms. How did you feel in the dress? You look fantastic!

@CookieJones: I like the look of the alabaster. I love that there are so many options other than white! How did the dress feel for you? Heavy? Light? Were you able to sit? 🙂

@CookieJones: So pretty! This was my runner up dress, it is so gorgeous.
I wore Sottero Midgley Loretta in size 14. It was absolutely THE dress and I felt like a new woman when I put it on. Pictures don’t do the bodice justice which caught the light with all the crystals and pearls.
