The Seychelles is a complex destination! Here are some things to look for in an agent:

1. How long have they been in business?

2. Have they personally traveled to the destination within the last three years?

3. Are they able to tell you why they are recommending one hotel over another?

4. Are they able to give you all the details of the trip insurance?

5. If they ask you to pay in cash-run!

A great agent can really make or break your trip. But just as with any other industry, there are good ones, and not so good ones. I would recommend you check the Seychelles Tourism board for agents who are certified in that destination. They should have a listing of agents in your area who have visited their islands and taken their certification courses.

Have a great trip!

@bruinchick4:  I’ve done lots of travelling, but never used a travel agent.  I was getting really stressed with the idea of planning my honeymoon (my fiance hasn’t traveled on his own and doesn’t know exactly how to go about it), my wedding, and working… so I read a bunch of Yelp reviews and decided to call Witmor Travel.  They’re in SF, on Union.  I’ve had great luck with Joan McCarthy.  Told her what I wanted and she had an itinerary for me the next day. 415 771 9300. And based on my preliminary research, I’d say we’re paying the same amount as if we’d gone through Kayak/bookit/etc etc  – so its like we get their planning services “for free.”

I have an OC-based person, and she is hooking me up for the Seychelles also!  I’m happy to give you deets if you’re interested.  She did several of my friends’ honeymoons, she’s great.

@bruinchick4:  If you have an AAA office near you be sure to check them out too! They have free travel services that are great, mine even price matches!
