Yes they can be, most rings given as anniversary gifts are to upgrade your current rings, but there is no reason you can’t wear a diamond ring on your right hand.

My mom got a solitaire as an anniversary gift.  She wears it with a diamond and sapphire band she got as a birthday gift, and uses the pair as an alternate wedding set.

My grandmother wore ANOTHER solitaire (an anniversary present) on her ring finger right hand.

I personally would switch it out with my ering if it looked like an ering. I would assume it was an upgrade from Darling Husband. Otherwise I would opt for an anniversary band.

You can.  I know someone who wear two solitaires on her right now.

My mom now wears her engagement ring and wedding ring on her right hand, because she got a marquise sapphire for a gift from my dad and my parents designed a ring for it, but the stone is at an angle and it just looks better on the left hand than on the right!

My mom does — in fact, she has two diamond rings in addition to her wedding set, and she wears them all every day!

If its discussed and given the choice, I’d vote for the upgrade. Would defintely prefer a 2X single ring than 2 rings each with X carats in them.
