My diamond ring has rainbow fire. Perhaps moissanite has even more of it? I also read that it’s a major difference but I’ve never seen a moissanite irl. I find my white sapphire ring mostly has white flashes, but my diamonds have tons of rainbow colour.

My diamonds have a ton of rainbow reflection especially under store lights and right after it’s cleaned!

I saw a moissanite and it seemed that the little rainbows were contained within the stone itself. I have a diamond on my ering, and I noticed that it gives mostly white flashes, and blue and green. If I get it in the sun while in the car, I see that it gives off little rainbow reflections on the roof of my car. 🙂 I didn’t have the opportunity to try that with the moissanite, but would have liked to!

Thank you bees for all your responses!
The idea that moissanite has the rainbows contained within the stone is what got me a little nervous in the first place. All this started when we decided to look at resetting my stone. I took a picture with my phone while i had three rings on, 2 were cubic zirconia sample rings, and one was my diamond ring. My diamond is the stone in the middle. I was amazed at how similar all three stones looked in the picture. And was also a little shocked at how much color my diamond was showing in the picture. In flourescent lights, it does look like this, but not in normal daylight. Is this what you mean about the rainbows being inside the stone??
I cropped the photo to just show the stones so it is easier to compare.

My diamond is very colourful and rainbowy outside and in shopping mall lighting. Indoors, more white. It’s a D coloured, excellent cut, VS1, no fluorescence diamond.

Do you have a side shot of your diamond? That should make it easier to tell if it’s cut like a diamond or like a moissanite. If you’re really worried, I’d take it to a jeweler though. They’d be able to set your mind at ease better than we can.

Someone said that the rainbow colors in moissanite make it look like “clear opal”. My diamond has lots of rainbow sparkles (fire) under certain indoor lighting, but I can tell the stone itself is colorless. Does your diamond have any fluorescence?
