- Wedding: May 2014
I was curious to know what you all thought of this idea. About a month ago, my Maid/Matron of Honor bought her dress (which was about $160). I wasn’t planning on buying the dress for her, and I had figured that I would decide on her gift closer to the wedding (it’s May of 2014). However, earlier this week, my Maid/Matron of Honor was laid off from her job – she even texted me to apologize that she couldn’t afford to get me a gift for our engagement party. I feel terrible that she lost her job, and even though funds are really tight on our end (we’re going through a battle with our original wedding venue which is going through foreclosure to get our money back), I’d really like to get her the dress. Would it be tacky and terrible to give her an envelope with cash inside? Again, she literally just got laid off, so buying her dress was never a thought – otherwise I would have taken care of it from the get go. What do you guys think? She’s my best friend and it means a lot to me to have her be my Maid/Matron of Honor. Thoughts?
