and ask what their price range is?
I’ve gone to 4 dress shops and haven’t found ANYTHING! There are some others an hour or so away from where I live but they’re sorta in “ritzy” neighborhoods and I’m nervous about price.
My budget’s about $900 … is it crazy to think I’m going to find a dress for under that price? I’m not looking for anything couture and I don’t care about designers but I’m finding it impossible to find something I like even a little … whether it’s in that price range or not!

Why couldn’t you? They may be able to tell you “Our dresses start at…” and it’ll give you a clear idea of if it’s worth the trip.

i don’t know. i was afraid it’d be tacky. or the people would be like “ohhhh she’s poor” lol

I definitely think thats ok. Several of the shops I investigated posted their ranges on their website. Otherwise its just wasting everyone’s time having to go try on dresses you can never afford and they have no hope of selling.
ETA: Its not like you have to tell them your name. If you do go in and try on dresses after you call, they will never know that was you.

Yes, call…don’t be afraid, if you don’t want to mention your pricepoint, just ask whoever answers the phone what the price range of their dresses are.

@Stace126: It’s better to ask than to go in and feel embarrassed b/c everything starts at 5k! My sister found a dress she loved for $600. It wasn’t designer or anything but she still loved it, so I know finding a dress for under $900 is possible.

@Stace126: I don’t think so, because honestly, if you went all the way out there and dresses started at 2k and clearly you would have no intention to buy one, they’d think… why did she come, she’s wasting our time, we’re not getting a commission on this appointment! I would call and ask what price ranges they carry, or find out what designers they carry. Some designers like Allure, Mori Lee, Maggie Sottero, have dresses in your price range, so you’d have some security knowing there could be something.

All salons I’ve booked an appt with asked me what my budget was for a dress over the phone. One told me their dresses start at $1500. Definitely not tacky. Saves both of you time and trouble!

I would recommend going to the Allure website and finding stores around you that carry their dresses. They have absolutely gorgeous is a variety of styles in fabrics that are $800-1200 price range and a lot of times, you can find them pre-owned if you find a style you like.

I called and got some answers but most of them would not tell me over the phone. I did find some luck by emailing the stores .

You should ask before going, otherwise they may not even have anything for you to look at. The shops where I live ask you before they even make an appt for you. So yes, I definitely think you can (and should) call and ask for their price range.
