Hello everyone! I’ve been dress shopping a few times now and I think I have a pretty good idea of what I want… and it happens to be a combination of these two dresses!
I love the fitted a-line shape, the shirred bodice, and the sweetheart neckline of this WToo Ariane, but the lace (while gorgeous!) is too vintage and not playful enough for my wedding style:
I love the soft modern embellishment on this Oleg Cassini and the overall whimsy and playfulness, but I don’t think a ballgown shape is for me. I’m only 5’3″ so I’m afraid it will swallow me up!
I thought about getting the Oleg Cassini, removing the ballgown slip and adding a mermaid gown slip to make it less poufy. How do you think that would turn out?? Any other ideas on how to make a ballgown less full?? I know most girls might be asking the opposite, haha. Maybe I should get a custom gown??
Alternatively, has anyone seen any other dresses out there that combines what I love from these two dresses? Let me know your suggestions and I’ll check them out!! My budget is $900 or under. Thanks!!

I think you look amazing in the second dress. It gives you a very flattering silouette, it gives you soft curves. I would try trying it on without the slip.

I love the second gown on you!!!
I am only 5″ 1 1/2″ and I am wearing a ballgown with an extremely full crinoline. Everyone that has seen me in it loves it on me, so you being 5′ 3″ shouldn’t be a problem 🙂

Aw well thanks! I do love the embellishment on that second dress. I think I still want a more fitted silhouette though, some kind of combination of the two… Who knows if it can be done!

I tried on the Oleg Cassini too – I loved it! I tried it w/ and w/out the slip, and its still a pretty full skirt. I do love the first dress on you! Maybe you could ask the salon if the designer could do a different floral accent belt? Also, so many times a designer can eliminate a portion, such as the lace on the bottom. Easy & quick fix. Sometimes you have to think creatively 🙂

I wonder if the skirt of the ballgown can be taken in to be more fitted? I would try asking a seamstress about it to see if it can be altered this way. Both dresses look beautiful on you but I also love #2!

@anuicupcake: I was looking on this board for some idea how to make that EXACT gown less poofy!! I would be very interested if you found something to make that work. I’m 5’7 so kind of the other way.. I’m worried I will look like a giant! being really tall with a really big dress!! Until now I have been loving the sheath style dresses but something about the oleg cassini I can’t forget…I’m not sure if you’ve found another dress yet but the other one I’m tossing up is the Maggie Sottero Edie..it has a less full skirt with a similar bodice as your first dress and a jewelled belt which I thought I could add a flower too if I choose that one…Please let me know how it worked out for you with your dress and good luck!!!

Wow, it sounds like we are going thru the same dress search :-). I was hunting for a A-line or dropped waist organza dress with some great flower detailing, and I was considering that Wtoo, as well as the Wtoo Desdemona at some point. It’s surprisingly hard to find a dress like this. My best advice to you is to find a dress with the silhouette you want and have a great flower sash made on Etsy. I feel like there’s a decent number of slimmer organza dresses out there, I’ll go find some examples.
Edited to add: I just realized this thread is a bit old – PM me if you’re still looking and want any examples.

I think that the 2nd dress looks amazing on you.
How about this dress, Its not that Poofy when you try it on x x

I have a very similar dress to your 2nd one….Vera Wang – Delaney….it isn’t a big ball gown but still has that soft feel…maybe you should check it out

Casablanca 1992…it has the same top as the first dress and has a ballgown silhoutte.
It’s my dress. I’m 5’0 and I don’t think it’s too overwhelming

I actually like the first one better 🙂

Wow, this old thread was dug up from the past! I actually found my dress back in October, so you can see what I ended up with! I actually think it is a pretty good combo of what I loved about the two dresses in the original post – fitted and slim like the first, with the airy volume and romantic, whimsical detail of the second one. The dress I ended up with is a Demetrios dress, #1420 from the Ultra Sophisticates line. I’ll be making the neckline more sweetheart as well as adding a chiffon flower pin from etsy at the hip. Good luck with all you other ladies in your search – I’m happy to say that mine ended very well 🙂
