A friend of yours can get ordained with the Universal Life Church and marry you…I don’t know if they charge a fee to do that, but I think it’s nominal. You do have to make sure that they’re licensed with the state, I think, and that might be like, $30.

You can only get married once, so it’s either at a JOP or a larger ceremony with family. You can’t really have it both ways.

If Officiants are that expensive, is there anyone in your family you could think that would want to marry you?

I know a lot of officiants I looked at seemed to charge a lot less for a vow renewal without the paperwork involved so it could be an option to go to the JOP and do the legal part then have an officiant do it as a vow renewal.  I also agree though to think about if anyone close to you would be good at performing the ceremony for you.

I did. Don’t let people tell you that you can only have a real wedding if a JOP hasn’t already married you. We did a marriage with a JOP for legal reasons and we didn’t consider it our wedding.

We just thought of it as another step towards marriage…. like getting our license.
