Can I help my stylist with my wedding hair?

I actually prefer the stylists loose braid for your wedding day as it looks more voluminous because it’s loose… your braid is super neat and great but it looks more casual I think. The stylist’s braid is loose but still neat… Plus a tight braid will only look voluminous if you have super thick hair and you mentioned you want a voluminous look

but it as far as if it’d be rude to ask her to do it in your own… I would definitely find it strange. My mom does bridal hair and makeup and if someone asked to do half their whole updo she’d be super lost as to how to charge and such. And if you do want a tighter braid I’m pretty sure your stylist is capable of making it tighter. The loose look in this case is on purpose and not due to lack of skill as far as I can tell. Making a neat, loose braid is harder than making a tight braid for most people.

I agree with PP that the braid from your hair trial looks much nicer than the one you have done. The one you have done looks very casual, like how you mgiht style your day when you haven’t washed it in my opinion. While it’s cute for everyday, I think it might look unprofessional and a bit juvenile on your wedding day… But in the end, I also think you should be comfortable with your look and etc. If it felt too loose, maybe talk to your stylist about how to make it a little tighter but keeping the voluminous look?

yes – exactly as PP said – tight braids and volume don’t go together (unless you have a TON of thick long hair) – loose braids are actually much harder and more diffucult to do correctly

what happened after your hair trial? did you leave it in for the day to see how it wore

For a wedding look, I prefer how the stylist did it. She can use spray and pins to help with hold. If you definitely want the braid to “look” tighter (and I don’t think that’s the case it sounds like you simply want it to to “feel” more secure) then she can add a couple of clip in extensions strategically on the sides so that the braids can be both tight and voluminous. I have long thick hair and add extensions all the time so that my braid can be bigger or my bun can be taller.

somathemagical :  I agree with PPs. The looseness was intentional as it is a bit more bridal in the typical sense. Your braiding skills are awesome too (way better than mine) so if you prefer the tighter braid over the loose just let her know and maybe just show her the pic of what you want. I also agree that it would be a bit strange to ask her to do only half of your style which is why I’d just bring a pic in if you’re unhappy with the bridal braid.

Oh yah as far as holding capabilities go… with good hair spray and some pins there’s no reason for the braid to fall out. The bun looks very tight and secure and as long as that’s secured it’ll keep all the hair in place, including the side braid portion, since all the ends of those hairs are in the bun.

somathemagical :  well from the sounds of your update it seems like your only concern isn’t just the stability of the braid but the look too. IF you prefer the look of the tighter braid that’s fine and thats fine and its totally reasonable request to ask the stylist to make it tighter. But just member you won’t achieve the same volume. good luck!

I actually prefer your braid. The other one looks a bit sloppy or droopy to me somehow. And not all that voluminius either. If i were you I’d talk to the stylist so that she knows how you want your braid on your day. I’m quite sure she’ll be able to do what you want.

While I agree that a looser braid would look nice on your wedding day, the one your stylist did looks sloopy to me, not just loose. Can you tell her you want it a little more neat, but still with some volume?

I like the stylist’s braid better. It looks more bridal.  Yours looks more athletic, sporty.  Not as romantic.
