Well I can’t help you with that, but when I was trying to figure out what size stone I wanted (prior to discovering the Bee and all the very helpful members here)  I googled the dimensions of a carat weight, then traced and cut it out on a post it note!  Then I stuck the cut out onto a plain band ring I had, and viola!  I knew just how large it would look on my hand.  🙂

Is it a solitaire 2 ct or total?

My friend just texted me this picture the other day. Her Engagement Ring is just over 2ct and I think she’s a 4.5 ring size. She wanted to know if the wedding band paired with the Engagement Ring was “too much”…

Sorry that it’s an enormous picture!

@MissNoodles: i also did something similar to this, but completely under estimated how high 2c would sit above my finger.  i’m a size nine, though, so no good to you :-

Isn’t the weight of a stone distributed differently for every diamond? I was reading a few articles and I learned that many times jewelers will cut the diamond leaving it with a thicker girth just so that it carries more weight (even though it will not affect the surface area of the stone)… I would think that some 2 carats will look more or less large depending on the depth as well.

I don’t have any photos to help, but here’s a ratio chart that one of the other bees posted a while back to show you what % of your finger a certain carat size would cover.

When I see a ring as big as 2 carats, I generally believe it is a cocktail ring or a “fake”. Just an observation to throw out there…….

@smiles731: yep… so you need to find a chart with the dimensions for the cut you’re getting.  Luckily I believe SammyRae is getting a round cut, so that’s pretty standard.

I agree I have a 1 carat and I did the same paper trick with cutting out a sticky note! However, the actual ring looked much larger on and I actually went through a period of thinking it was too big! If you’re looking at around a 2 ct my best advice is to go to a store and try on a 1, 2, and 3, to figure out where in that range you feel comfortable! good luck!

i have a 4.5 size finger and my main diamond is just over 1ct and the other accent diamonds around the band add up to another .5 ct. Personally I do not feel that it is “too much” and I fully plan on getting a blinged out wedding band as well =)
