Our home number is one digit off from WalMart so we get all sorts of calls too.  The best are the people that leave voicemails.  Our personalized answering machine message would probably be their first hint that they’ve reached the wrong number…but they still leave a message!

Ahhh that sucks! But I understand where you are coming from in that you don’t want to change it. :/

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose: I don’t think the post was pointless. It kind of gave me a chuckle since we used to have a similar problem when I was growing up. Our phone number was almost identical to our local walgreens pharmacy. The last two digits were only swapped. Ours would have been something like: 555-1234 and the pharmacy would have been: 555-1243. We used to get calls all the time. One time an old lady didn’t believe my mom when she said our number wasn’t the pharmacy and started yelling about poor customer service. We even had messages for the pharmacy on our voicemail… That part always baffled me since you could tell from the message that it was a home answering machine…

My number used to be an old number for a medical supplies company (and was listed in the phone book as such). I used to get calls all the time from old people trying to order things from wheel chairs to bed pans. I had one person call one time and curse me out because they said I screwed up their order. When I explained that they had the wrong number and hung up they called over and over again and said they were reporting me to BBB. I even changed my VM to include, “You have NOT reached AA medical” eventually I changed me number.

We recently got a house phone so we could have internet and the person who had our number before us gets calls everyday so we don’t even answer our phone…. ever. We get bill collectors, her son’s school and everything else you could think of… it got old fast.

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose: You know I’m sure if my mom still had this problem she would probably mess with people that did this… Hmm I’m going to have to ask her if she ever did that now.

Why do you even have a home number? I haven’t had a home phone number since I left home…over a decade ago. If you have cell phones, what is the point? Sounds like a bigger hassle than it is worth.

LOL! My parents home number is one digit from a local pizza place as well.  I actually took a few orders over the years…it was annoying as hell!  “Pickup or delivery??” LOL

Just saw that you got it for internet – never heard of that? If you got it as part of a package deal but don’t really need it, just don’t use it. Unplug the phone.
