Can I tell the artist I like it, but I'd like it more if…? (Pic attached)

OMG Wow! I think it looks great! I havent seen anything like that before. I love it! I think it looks great the way that it is, but since you paid for a service, I think you have the right to ask for it to be done exaclty as you had envisioned it to be.

ButternutPoppy :  The examples you gave him are his work or from another artist?

It looks like this was done on a computer…? Not free hand. Both the couple picture and the dog picture look computer generated. It does seem that the dog image matches the style of the couple picture.

Otherwise, anytime you are paying for a service you can ask for it to be adjusted for what you are expecting to pay for. So yes, I would clearify how you want to image to look. I would give other examples based on his work. Also, you shouldn’t have to pay for any changes. The agreeded on amount is for his time and what you expect. Unless of course, you keep asking for changes after changes.

I think the way he painted your dog (filled in) looks WAY more professional than the pic of the couple. If that was a few years ago, it’s possible his style has evolved a bit.

I agree with the comment above, the painting of the couple looks like something that could have been done with a phone app (sorry!). What he did with your dog though looks really artistic. Regardless, you paid for the service so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking the artist to create your picture how you envisioned. Your dog is adorable btw!

I have to agree with PPs, I much prefer the one he did of your dog!!  I LOVE it!

I just wanted to say that I adore the way he did your dog, it looks more refined and stylised than the couple.

When you order something like this it’s hard because you willl often visualise it and then it never looks the way it does in your head (it can’t, the artist isn’t in your head). So the disappointment has more to do with those two images not matching rather than the work not being good.

Bee, as someone who has lost their puppy, I do think that over the years you will actually appreciate that he has filled in your dog and done a more accurate (while still arty) representation of her

Wow, I love what he did! The one of the couple looks cute, but the one of your dog looks, to me, like art.

But all that matters if your opinion. You’re paying for it, so it’s fine to let him know that you’d like your next commission to be even more “graffiti” style.

You can’t really tell an artist how to do their work, that’s tacky. That being said, I like the way he did your dog way better than the couple. I agree with PP, the couple looks like a phone app while your dog looks like a work of art. IMO

I like the painting very much

and if it were computer generated it’d be less offensive to tell him to change it, but hand painted?  You’re asking him to re-do it.. I wouldn’t.

I really like your pup!  I am not an artist by any means but I can’t imagine what other colours he would use for the white – it would look strange.  Skin tones have heaps of ?undertones so I think the multi-coloured graffiti look in the couple’s skin works, but it would look really wierd making a multi-coloured dog :p

It sounds like you are liking it more and more now though, so as long as you’re happy thats the main thing!
