What’s your budget for alterations? Will it need a hem, or taking in or letting out anywhere else? Maybe a seamstress bee can pop in and check it out!

Totally possible. You can almost always make something narrower. It may be costly, though, as a seamstress will have to take it in on most of the seams. Take it to a good bridal seamstress (starting off by asking local bridal salons about their alterations department is a good place to start, many will give recommendations to outside seamstresses as well), and remember that a mermaid shape slip will help add fullness to the bottom and get you a really dramatic mermaid look! Your a-line dress probably doesn’t have the crinoline built into it, so even after an alteration a slip may be helpful to get the look you’re going for.

Before…

I did. I wore the Mikeaella 1406 which is A-line and altered to fitted mermaid 🙂

$400 for alterations, I’m short on top of it so there was much to do. I took mine to alterations in Michigan Ave downtown Chicago, not cheap around there. I’m sure I would’ve had it done for lesser price somewhere else.
