as with everything it depends on the wedding… I personally wouldnt mind black at all but some people get vry upset about it and see it as ‘ill wishing’ on the couple (since its related to death)

if the couple are young, hip, trendy, free spirited and you feel safe in the knowledge they wont care then go for it

however if you dont know them too well and/or they are older (I know lots of ‘older’ people dont care but being an older tradition the older the bride the more likely the tradition is what she grew up with) and/or religous I would probably pick something safer or dress it up with lots of colour so it cant be seen as superstious thing

julies1949 :  This…so much this. I would be mad as all hell if people were calling me checking if a black dress is ok. As I bride, I was constantly on 10 for a million important things. The last thing I needed to do was micromanage attire.

OP, you know the bride, so maybe you know she is the type to throw fits about every aspect of her wedding. You don’t need to worry about the other Judge Judy guests. You have gotten the bridal thumbs up. Besides, unless it is a stiff Victorian collar get up that looks like funeral attire, you should be fine. Your outfit choice sounds perfectly lovely.

I’m personally a little superstitious and prefer to avoid black at a wedding…but I know that most people don’t subscribe to that superstition anymore. If it makes you happy go for it!

PS: I LOVE black and nude together!

Yes you can. I wore a black dress to a wedding about 15 years ago, no one batted an eye. My friend who did a reading, wore a black dress also. Others probably did too, but I didn’t even notice.

Maybe that is why the marriage lasted about 2 years, right?
