Looks fine to me, when’s the wedding?

I think It’s fine. Apparently my sister in law is wearing one of those to my wedding, and she’s using the same one as the bridesmaid dress for her own wedding only four weeks beforehand.

pinklemonade12 :

As long as your dress is not the same color as the bridesmaids’ gowns, I think you should be fine and you’ll look beautiful.

I would just find a way to poke around and figure out what color/style the bridesmaids are wearing – you’re right that accidentally matching is really the only thing that would make this an inappropriate choice (assuming the formality of the wedding calls for a floor length dress). Could you ask whoever you have in common with the couple to do a little investigating? This color could be a popular choice for a September bride.

ETA: Also a word of caution with convertable dresses like this from a bride who looked into them for her own bridesmaids: Tread with caution regarding that neckline! Some of these convertible dresses can get down right scandelous when tied certain ways if you have anything other than a small chest. For example, I would consider wearing it in the v-neck like the model has it too much cleavage for a wedding.

Once again, brides don’t have a monopoly on who wears a long colored gown. And guests have no way to know and are in no way required to avoid wearing something that coincidentally happens to be the same color as a Bridesmaid or Best Man. That is serious bridezilla territory.

I personally dont think it looks bridesmaidish. It’s actually quite nice! For peace of mind though just make sure that it isn’t one of the wedding colours and you should be fine. The only reason I say that is I had a friend who went to a wedding in a floor length, one shoulder purple gown and it turned out to be almost the exact same shade as the bridesmaid dresses (though theirs were strapless and a different material) and the bride actually got upset with her!

It’s lovely – wear it! I agree with another poster that it’s not your responsibility as a guest to try to find out what bridesmaids are wearing.

It would be nice to know what colors her wedding is so you could avoid looking like her bridesmaids if the thought makes you uncomfortable, but don’t feel obligated about it if you really have no way of knowing!

I’d shorten the dress, no confusion there.

Petals2002 :  Why not? My sister in law’s bridesmaids are wearing a short version of this dress next weekend. You never know!
