Ok so I am in that stage where I love my dress (I think) but haven’t seen it in so long (or in the correct color) that I am getting doubts. AHHHH. I swore I would never be “that girl”
I have always wanted a vintage looking lace dress, no bling, sleeve or halter, and simple. Somehow I bought a lace dress WITH bling and STRAPLESS. Haha, it is true when they tell you to try on everything.
My question is – can I add cap sleeves to this dress to make me more comfortable and also to make it a bit more ‘country’ with my cowboy boots? (It comes with sleeves but they are skinny and blingy and I don’t think I will wear them.
It is the Maggie Sotterro Gatsby btw and mine will be champagne not ivory. Thanks!

something along the lines of this look:

I like the straps that come w/ Gatsby.

That is kinda what I am doing to my dress. My seamstress said it was possible so I’m thinking you should be able to do it as well. Good luck!

I think it would be cute w/ sleeves!

Totally! It would make it look more vintage as well. I think cap sleeves really balance out that silhouette anyway. Show us picks once it’s done 🙂

@Melini: They only had one when I was in the store – the other was lost. So I am up to try them again, but I remember them being kind of skinny straps not cap and so I may want to go wider, more off the shoulder?
@engaged711 – I am curious what your dress looks like? Did you buy material through the dress company or find your own? Good luck to you as well 🙂

I would add a bolero instead of adding sleeves. Several Bees have done that and the look is gorgeous.
And I would add the cowboy boots if that’s your style. That’s what I love about being a bride.

I agree with the bolero. You could do a really cute one that is more modern, so you could take it off for pictures, etc.

Definitely add the sleeves, it’ll look great! Or alternatively, do a lace bolero.

I think sleeves would look great!

I LOVE the look of boleros, but can that be done with a corset dress? Or would it look funny?

I don’t know about how a bolero would look with a corset dress (probably fine? or is it the kind of corset where you can see your back through it? that might look kind of weird) but I think cap sleeves would be cute. I just want to point out that I don’t think that would make the dress any more comfortable; I don’t think cap sleeves “hold up” the dress or anything, (oh, wait, I just realized that you meant make you *feel* more comfortable.)

I think it would look great, go for it!

@red_rose: haha, yeah for some reason in my head I think I will feel more comfortable. Like I am letting it all hang out (mostly self concious of my ‘boob fat’ that sticks out by my armpits in a strapless. If it can cover that I will feel 100% better 🙂
