Could you provide a picture or a Designer name and model number so we can better advice you?  There was an old thread on the bee where a bride did that with an aline.  I don’t believe the fabric was chiffon but was a satin.  I would suggest asking  the person doing your alterations if it is a possibility.

A-lines in general? Sure.

A-line chiffon? Very very slim.

Chiffon is incredibly hard to work with and I doubt it but you should really ask the person who’s altering your dress.

I would doubt it, to be honest. Even if it was possible you’d probably be better off buying a new one as the cost would be high.

You may be better off buying a new dress. I think alterations can do some changes but that would be building a whole new dress and it may not come out how imagined.

In theory it can be done, but not if the original dress fabric is chiffon – the drape and fragility of it would not work with the tighter fitting silhouette of a trumpet/mermaid shape.

Like the other bees have said, it’s possible in general. I had my dress altered from an A-line/soft trumpet shape to a true trumpet, but my dress was silk-satin and cotton. Chiffon is much more difficult to reshape. I can’t remember exactly how much my alterations were, but they were in the $1-2k range.

In general, chiffon is meant to be a loose, floaty fabric. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trumpet dress made with chiffon. The fabric just doesn’t lend itself to that shape. I think it would be very difficult to alter it, and most likely very expensive as well.
