Hey bees,
Please help! Can my dress be altered from a size 10US to a size 6US? I’ve lost a lot of weight this last month (stress related) and I’m freaking out here!
I know they usually say dresses can be made smaller “up to two sizes” but in this case I’m worried even two sizes would be difficult because the corset area is so thick with Alencon lace and crystal encrusted that I don’t know if it can be done!
Also would it have to be altered all the way down to the floor or just the corset area?
Any opinions would be REALLY appreciated! Thanks

I think a great seamstress can do anything. I would start looking for one now and ask as many questions as you can. No point in freaking out yet, just start asking around.

Thank you! It’s the only one I ever tried on!
I’ve never felt particularly glamourous but as soon as I tried it on I felt like a princess! That’s a feeling everyone deserves to have at least once in their lives right?
Thanks so much bees! What would I do without you all??

What a gorgeous dress! I wouldn’t worry too much…my dress is a sample sale and a size 10, and they told me I’m a size 6 and they could do it “no problem!” Good luck! You’ll look stunning!!

Do you plan to keep the weight off or do you think a few pounds will come back when you are less stressed? If so, I’d put off the alterations for a couple of months.

Try to look for someone who has experience with wedding gowns, and it shouldn’t be an issue.

Thanks girls! It’s reassuring to know that others who have a dress a few sizes bigger have been told it’s no big deal. Now I have to start looking for a great seamstress somewhere who feels confident she can fix it.
I don’t PLAN on gaining weight, i’m just worried i’ll lose more as my life is pretty crazy right now and I can’t see it getting easier any time soon
I’ll try to take better care of myself but tbh I can’t imagine having a decent appetite any time soon…
*sigh*
Stress sucks!

Yes it can def be done!
I was undecided when I ordered my dress as my bust and waist are a size 8 but my thighs are a size 10. I told her I wanted to lose weight for the wedding so didn’t know if I should order an 8 or a 10. The owner of the place I got it from used to be a seamstress and she said it can be altered to be smaller no problem even tho it has a lot of detail on it, so I ended up going with the 10.
She said a good seamstress will pick off all the lace, (or whatever details you have) alter the dress to be smaller at the seam and then re-sew all the details back on.
Just check the seamstress you get can do that and you will be fine!

Thanks so much girls! Looking at the polls i’m so relieved that (nearly) all of you think the dress can be altered successfully!
I’m just hoping it will look the same as an authentic size 6 after alterations!
