Can perfumes go bad?

valencia247 :  Yes perfumes go bad but it should usually take about a year, minimum, before that happens. Perhaps your eBay bargain was already old? I wouldn’t worry too much about the big bottle, if it goes off quickly you can take it back to the shop and hopefully they’ll replace it.

Yes absolutely. Sounds like the eBay product is expired. Or are you sure it’s genuine?

Yes, after about a year the perfume loses its potency and the notes tend to smell all wrong. I really shouldn’t have kept it but I have a 5+ year bottle of perfume I don’t wear just because of sentimental reasons. Some perfume age better than others though.

Yes, perfume goes bad. Certain things can accelerate the process such as not storing in a cool, dark place. 

I’d also caution anyone buying perfume from ebay/3rd party sellers. It was probably expired, might even be counterfeit.

Do you leave it in your car? That could be why it went bad.

Leaving perfumes in direct sunlight or hot places (like you car) can also spead up the process and make them go bad quicker.
