It’s all about how you workout, but yes, it’s possible that situps make your belly stick out.

Try to find and use a DVD by Mari Winsor – 20 minutes abs workout. She shows you HOW to work out in order to NOT build out, but to have a tight tummy… I swear by this and I got not so bad abs myself!

I have no idea about your original question, but one thought did come to mind. Do you “treat yourself” to something unhealthy because you worked out? Sometimes we think we’re burning so many calories working out that we allow our eating habits to change. Could that be part of it? Whatever it is, I hope you can figure it out. That’s a bummer.

If your doing sit ups and its causing your tummy to grow then you probably need to tweek your diet. You can do a million sit ups a day but if your not eating right all the muscles are being hidden by the fat.

yes. if you do a crunch so your stomach sticks out then you are training the muscles to stay that way. You sould do a crunch until your stomach is flat, no further.

I think you are supposed to make sure you exhale everytime you come up otherwise the muscle will form in that rounded shape.  Try it out and look at the difference in you stomach when you exhale and when you inhale on the up part.  I think that may be the issue.  I’m sure no one can tell but you though 🙂

Yes, that’s the one. it’s only 20 minutes and it’s really efficient.

Marzipan is right with the exhaling thing… you have to exhale coming up, pressing your belly button to the spine as much as possible, then inhale when you go down.

Wow, this is a great question. I work out all the time normally – and a lot of ab work. I have some definition in my abs, and am rather thin, yet I always see that my stomach is sticking out. I have wondered the same thing. I haven’t been able to work out the last couple weeks and I could swear my stomach’s gotten flatter! Could it be?
