They are going to have to totally remake the dress. Without seeing the tears, I can’t really say if they are repairable or not, but from what you have stated it is quite probable that they can be. I would see if you could find reveiws on the alterations department for that store before making a final decision. If it were me, I would probably keep looking.

OMG I just posted about how amazing this dress is on your other thread….I am a street size 0-2 and my Rivini dress was ordered in an 8 — I think you are ok with the size.  I almost got a Monique Lhullier gown and it would have been a 6 – – thats just to give you a friendly tip surounding the size aspect….

Now for the rips in the fabric….I think it depends where they are, how noticeable, how exactly they fix it…Can they show you exactly what they would to do fix the rips? Do you need the bottom hemmed?  Could they use the fabric they take off and re-place it where the rips are????

You are very welcome. From what I can see, if the seamstress is very qualified, she should be able to alter it for you. You might want to consider a corset back. With as much as it needs to be taken in, the repairing of the ruffles shouldn’t be a problem.

That is such a pretty dress!  I think it probably could be brought down in size.

With the princess seams in the bodice- it should alter quite nicely. There are so many layers in the skirt, I think the rip mending will be unnoticable.   It’s a beautiful dress-

Make sure they give you the price for the alterations before you buy. If the alterations are extensive it can wipe out your savings very quickly.

Going from a 12 to a 2 means they will have to completely rebuild it.  Basically, it’s going to be the same material (and hopefully style) but it will have to be taken apart, cut down, and put back together.  It’s definitely possible, but you’ll want a seamstress whose work you really trust, and it may end up costing you a ton.  Shop around and see what kind of quotes you get.
