A bridal shower is a lot like a baby shower. You usually invite both your and FI’s girl guests. Usually at a bridal shower you play a couple of different games, you eat some food and you open presents.

In my area, a bridal shower is hosted by one of the BMs (it’s not supposed to be by your family, but if your Bridal Party is all sibs/relatives, what are you going to do).

They get a general idea of a guest list from you, send out invites, and then you’re ‘showered’ with gifts. Generally it’s a little luncheon or snack type set up, maybe some cake and punch. With my friends/family it’s a way to get all the friends/your relatives/FI’s relatives together and get to know one another.

Fun games like ‘gift bingo’ can be played, and sometimes there are little favors for the guests or some ‘prizes’ to give out for things. Sometimes a bride gets more than one shower if FI’s side wants to host their own, or there are multiple cities involved (like I moved 300 miles away, so we may have a ‘hometown’ one and then one w/ our friends/family up here in the new city).

I hope that helped a bit, that’s basically all I know on it and I hope I’m not missing something obvious.
