I just found out that I enroll in December for the effective date to begin Jan. 1. I cannot be diagnosed as pregnant before my effective date but I could be diagnosed pregnant Jan. 2 and would reap the benefits. So if all goes as planned and I’m pregnant before the end of the year, disability will not work out for me soley for maternity leave.

solnishko1186: Under my plan, they wouldn’t pay benefits in that case I’m pretty sure.

MissB2MrsO: FYI, disability insurance does not pay for your maternity leave. It pays for your recovery time from the actual birth. The medical community mandates the recovery time for a normal pregnancy as six weeks. That is the most you will get paid for.
Disability insurance only pays for the time you cannot work due to illness or injury. After six weeks of giving birth, you are not considered ill or injured anymore.
Also, it only replaces lost income. If you are still getting paid your full salary from work during the time you are gone, it is doubtful you will get any additional benefit.
