Honestly, I had to look up what Pagan means when I saw this board. I was very intrigued when I read about it. For a few years now I have been looking for something that would incorporate my beliefs. I am 30 years old and up until about 4 years ago I was a Christian. I was baptized in an Episcopal church. These past few years I have doubted many parts of Christianity and would no longer consider myself as part of that religion. We are not having a Christian ceremony. However, I am a very spiritual person who does believe there is a higher power or powers out there, Gods and Goddesses. I believe in nature, reincarnation, magic, love, karma, being a good person, soulmates.. Nature is so important to me. I just want to find something that I fit into, a place where I belong. With a group of people who believe in the same things that I do. Would I be considered a Pagan? And could someone please give me a synopsis on what Paganism means? Thank you!

I believe you would be considered Agnostic.

@Kings7911: Agreed… I ascribe to a similar belief system, and I consider myself agnostic.
Paganism is a whole different playing field (not a bad one, just not what you’re describing) 🙂
[ETA] And if you’re looking for a some”where” to belong, maybe take a look at a Unitarian Church? It’s based on christianity but doesn’t push any particular religion. There are often a whole mix of faiths in one congregation. I’ve been to one and it wasn’t uncomfortable (they were in the middle of switching leaders, which was a weird time to start visiting)
Also, I’d suggest looking into Shinto, it sounds somewhat similar to what you describe, and may help you to open some possibilities toward finding solid ground (though there is nothing wrong with having a highly personal set of beliefs)

Pagan is an umbrella term…usually a religion that believes in more than one god, or is pantheistic is pagan…technically buddhism, and hinduism are pagan religions. Im wiccan (also pagan) if you have any questions or anyone else reading this, just message me!
Also there is nothing wrong with researching relgions to see which one is right for you…I was born into a catholic family and had absolutely no connection to it

Pagan just refers to any religion that is polytheistic and nature-based. This includes many religions. I am Wiccan, and my ex-boyfriend is Asatru, but we’re both Pagans. If you’re interested in Paganism I highly recommend the forum at Everything Under the Moon http://everythingunderthemoon.net/forum/
Frankly, you do sound a lot like a could-be Wiccan to me. Our rede is “An it harm none, do as ye will,” and we relate to a uniting “super” natural force through a goddess and god, to whom many of us relate via specific deities. There are many Pagan forums out there, but EUTM is chock full of nice people, who will not make you feel less-than and are generally very welcoming. I would do some reading around the internet and ask your questions there.
