It absolutely can, I’ve experienced it a few times.  Every time I got worried I was pregnant which of course also added to the stress, delaying my period even further 😛

It used to happen to me all the time [I am a worrier by nature] and times when I have been stressed more than usual my period would be late.

From what I’ve read, stress doesn’t delay your period, but it can delay your ovulation, which in turn delays your period. So the short answer is yes 😉 From what you’ve described, I would guess it is definitely stress related. No need to worry. Hopefully it will get back on track soon.

I wouldn’t worry about it unless it happens with your next cycle. I’m usually 28 days like clockwork, but have been late a few times over the years when I’m stressed or really sick. Seeing as how you were stressed and sick, I’d assume it’s just that, unless you have any other symptoms going on.

Illness and stress can both delay mine.

happytobemrsg :  I’d imagine that gestation/child birth throws your schedule off course for a few months.

happytobemrsg :  Most definitely!  Although I believe it’s actually ovulation that’s delayed, which in turn causes a delayed period.  Stress can cause your body to not release the egg as usual.

I’ve had a pretty regular 28-29 day cycle for a while. Last month, I went through an intense and stressful time at work. For about 3 weeks, I worked 60-70 hours a week and completely wore myself out. All I did was work and sleep and I was under immense pressure. I temp and use OPKs so I was able to see that I ovulated over a week later than normal and AF didn’t show until CD 35 and even then was spotty for a couple of days first.

If you’re feeling anxious, exhausted, run down, I’d bet your body is just a little behind this cycle.

Yes! I work in politics and AF was 5 days late because I was supposed to ovulate right around the Presidential election but all of the uncertainity was stressing me out! It later caused AF to be late.

yep.  The moment I started TTC my cycles started lasting an extra week.. yay.  They’ve recovered now, fwiw, it was just the first couple months of excitement/stress that got to me I guess.

As what other bees have said–it delayed my ovulation, which delayed AF.  My luteal phase was unaffected.

YES.

When my dad was sick and dying from cancer my period came 2 weeks late. Prior it was always on time.

happytobemrsg :  Yes it can. I was going through a really hard time a few years back. My period got delayed for two months because of the stress. Before this, my period pretty much was on time to the tee. I used a period tracker app for about two to three years and it has been consistent until that time. After my stressor went away, my period took about an extra month to adjust, then I was back to usual. I know it doesn’t help saying, but try to relax and not cause more stress.
