I think it would be very generous for you to purcahse suits for the groomsmen and not in bad taste at all; however, usually the guys rent their own suits. It would probably be less expensive for you to just get them a gift.

I agree with noritake22 – wou;dn’t a gift be cheaper than a full suit?  My FI was in a wedding last year in which the gift was a pair of flips flops the groom wanted them to wear in the wedding – kinda lame but the guys didn’t have to worry about footwear!

It think it would be very nice and generous of you to purchase suits for the guys but, that said, I also am opposed to the only gift you get your wedding party being something for them to wear in your wedding.  That is more a gift to you in many ways than a gift to them (even if they do get to keep it).

So, if you get them their suits, I also think you need to get them something completely unrelated to the wedding that is strictly a gift for them.

Hahhaa I didn’t mean for my comment to sound snotty about the flip flops!!  It was just that they were a pair of $15 flip flops – and we had spent a lot of $$ on wedding gifts, lodging, and attire to be in he wedding.  I just wish he had gotten something else w/ the flip flops!  Now I sound stuck up….ugh!  ha
