So i went to 2 alteration places for my wedding dress. One told me to bring everything that i needed underneath the dress as well as my shoes. Then she quoted me $200- Bra cup inserts, hem, and taking in the sides. Not bad i thought ok so we left and went to another bridal store. They had told me to again put everything in and then instead of asking me what i needed/wanted they just started going on how i needed this and that etc. My dress already has a bustle and when they looked at it she said o no we need to do another one and thats another fee. So the total price was $340-$370! i nearly fainted. I told her that i would need to talk to my fiance and then she tells me well if you aren’t going to do your alterations with me then you will have to pay me $30 fitting fee. I was like excuse me? You didnt tell me that in the beginning nor did you tell me over the phone when i called. Do all/most alteration places charge you a fitting fee when you go in there for just a quote???

ooooh, i didn’t know about this, but my ears are perked because i’m curious to know if this is the norm.

Did you pay her the $30? I wouldn’t have. She should’ve told you that before you even stepped foot into her shop! Does she have it posted anywhere in her shop?

Wow…I hadn’t heard about a fitting fee either! Seems to me it’s something she should have mentioned over the phone! Makes me want to be more careful when I look for someone!
Honestly? I would see if you can get a seemstress who doesn’t work at a Bridal store. A lot of the time they will charge a lot less. ; )

She can’t legally charge you for something that wasn’t disclosed prior to getting a quote. If there is a sign in her shop that states a fee, that would count as disclosure, even if she didn’t come right out and tell you like she should have. Since she charges so much for her alterations, adds things that shouldn’t be added, and doesn’t get the brides opinion on the alterations, charging/extorting that fee is probably the only way she makes her money.

Nope my friend and i told her that she didnt mention it on the phone nor did she mention it before the quote began so she got mad and took all the pins out of the dress. This is the first time i have ever heard of an alterations place asking me for $30 fitting fee since i didnt want to get my alterations done there.
There wasnt a sign in there either. All the signs said no pictures are allowed to be taken.
