No idea but I wouldn’t see why not, he’s still ‘qualified’ as a pastor.

I think the fact that he sent you a personal email about it means that he either can’t do the ceremony as per church rules, or doesn’t want to (doesn’t necessarily reflect on his relationship with you personally)

*grain of salt, I don’t attend any flavor of churches. You might find better help in the Christian subforum.

I would take his email as he cannot do it. I think he probably would have said so if that were an option.

The Lutheran church tries to make a clean break when a pasror leaves a church. If the old pastor is coming bck too much it’s hard for the congregation to bond with the new pastor. So don’t take it personally that he can’t do the wedding. But I think he should give you the contact of some alternate options – maybe write back and ask if he has any suggestions about who could take over?

@parada:  Most churches do allow an outside officant to do a wedding at the couples request, they usually charge more for renting the church in this case. Simply ask your church.

My Family is Lutheran. When my youngest niece was being confirmed her class had went most of the way thru with one Pastor but he got transfered. When it came time for them to be confirmed they asked if he could come back to help. The current Pastor and him talked and they did it together.

It is possible all you can do is ask. 🙂 You never know you might like the new Pastor better! But then it depends on weither you are ALCA Or LCMS. The latter is strickter in their beliefs.
