- Wedding: July 2013
I’m pretty new to WeddingBee and quite new to the whole wedding planning malarkey (despite having planned half of it in my head before he even proposed, or so I thought!).
How do you work out timings for the big day? Or more importantly, what do you do to fill time when you’re on a tight budget and don’t want bored guests?
Our ceremony is going to start at 12pm and our reception will be about 1 mile from the ceremony venue. I worked out a provisional timetable like this:
1-2pm Photos outside church/guests to move to reception venue
2-3.30 Drinks reception
3.30-5pm Afternoon tea/informal buffet
5.30 Cake cutting
… Spare 1.5/2 hours
7pm First dance
7.10 Ceilidh kicks off, dancing and fun
8pm Hog roast served
10pm Husband(!) and I leave
BUT the issues I see with this are – what do people do in the spare couple of hours?! And/or is it too much to make guests, who’ve travelled for a 12pm ceremony, wait until 3.30pm for food? I could make the afternoon tea before the drinks reception (also meaning that people won’t be drinking lots on an empty stomach) but then I’ll have even more spare time to fill later on!?
Ideally we would have the ceremony later in the day but we want a particular registrant and he is only available at 12….
All advice/wisdom/reassurance will be much appreciated!
