I don’t think it’s sarcasm–if it is…then frankly, the author’s pretty bad at it. Sarcasm isn’t usually THAT subtle, and there is usually at least some sort of “nod” at the conclusion to clue the reader into the author’s actual intent. The source is also a conservative news site, and irony isn’t really its thing (although I’m not a regular reader, so I could be wrong).
I agree though, it’s a weird column. I mean, of all things, parenthood is not something to cajole someone else into!

Yeah, I read this… and was rolling my eyes the whole time. What really bugged me was that he said he tried to go around convincing people to have children when they explicitly stated they didn’t want them. He can have all the opinions he wants (ridiculous as some of them are) but to go around shoving them down people’s throats is super wrong.

Eh the guy who wrote it is just an idiot saying idiotic things, I wouldn’t even worry if it’s real or fake, I just made one big fat eye roll after reading it 🙄

haha, number 7 made me laugh since it’s imperically false. this guy is an idiot and i couldn’t even get through it. when i read stuff like this i think “thou doth protest too much” also the whole site it’s on is geared toward that viewpoint so it’s not totally surprising. i’m sure they also have articles about how stupid it is to not get married in your teens.

That confused me too! Now that college degrees seem to be a requirement for a lot of jobs. That whole part of “kids aren’t expensive” was one of reasons why I thought it was a joke at first.

like for real! This guy is a twat and a half. I showed Fiance that article and he laughed.

He’s just a smug asshole who thinks his life choices are the only satisfactory ones. He can stay home with his screaming kids – I’m going out to dinner.

I still can’t get over the fact that this dude is talking about how he “tried to get his tubes tied at the tender age of 21.” Now, I also tried to get my tubes tied at the tender age of 19, but…I have fallopian tubes. I’m assuming, since nowhere does this man mention being transgender, that he does not, in fact, have tubes to tie.

I’m pretty sure the article was a tongue and cheek attempt, but poorly done. Man, the comment section is absolutely vile on that website.

I don’t even bother to read nonsense like that because it’s so stupid.

I laughed at his ridiculous bit about overpopulation and “wanting to save the kittens”, because clearly, HE’S the one who fails at math. For animal rescue, we’ve proven that we can’t adopt our way out of overpopulation, and the only solution is to spay/neuter. Which is the exact same thing that people who aren’t having kids are doing, except we get to keep our reproductive organs.
Also, I’ve smelled baby breath. It triggered absolutely no response. Not sorry.

“Yes, they are gross. I have nieces and nephews. And no, not necessarily smaller. You would not believe the (tmi) diarrhea explosions that happens all the time. I am not quite sure how that much nastiness is physically possible to hold inside such a tiny human baby. But it does.”
Both the original article and your response demonstrate how pointless it is to logically argue about the merits of being or not being a parent. Yes, diapers contain shit. For years, I did not want a cat because the idea of a litter box in my small apartment and having to clean another creature’s smelly crap daily for all the years of its life turned me off. For millions of others, the litterbox is an unpleasant chore, but hardly a detriment to owning a cat.
I did finally get a cat, and although the litter box (and occasional diarrhea explosions) still gross me out, I have gotten used to it, and for me now, the love of the cat outweighs my revulsion. It was my decision to finally get a cat and no one had any business nagging me, telling me I would not care about the litterbox.
Same with baby diapers. How gross they are is a matter of perception. For some people, this unpleasant part of having a baby is no big deal and they get used to it. For others, it is much more of a turn off.
To each her own, on both sides of what should be a non-argument.

Exactly, I agree. Maybe tiny human baby diahhrea is fine with most people, but there are some of us who will never get used to it!
