Good afternoon Bees,
While I wish I was writing this post in a sentiment that is most often coupled with the main purpose of this jewel of a web site — joy, excitment, happiness — I am feeling quite the opposite of those things. Last week on Thursday, after months of speculation, my company laid off a big part of my department, including me. Thankfully, they are giving us until March 13 to wrap things up and write transition documents, etc. While all of the rumors swirling around the office had given me and my husband time to prepare for living on his income alone, what we were not prepared for was the call from HR he received the next day, delivering a message that left him jobless as well. After a weekend of feeling every emotion possible, I am hunkering down and exahusting every possible resource I have to find a new job. Which brings me here. These social media tools are proving to be for much more than status updates and embarassing photos — a social network allows us to do just that, network!
Here’s my schpeel: I have a BA in print journalism and an MS in public relations. For the past three years I have worked at hotels.com as a customer marketing coordinator, managing the user-generated content on our site and performing hotel evaluations across the country. I am interested in public relations, copywriting and interactive marketing jobs, but am very open to other fields. My Spanish writing, speaking and reading skills are at an intermediate level. I live in the DFW area and prefer to stay around here, but am open to opportunities in other geographic areas.
I think that’s the important stuff — I am happy to send a resume, references, writing samples, etc..
I want to thank you sincerely, even if nothing comes of this, I still have faith that doors will open!
