@MASPA:  +1. a 3-bed fixer-upper far outside the city in a decent suburb is going to run you $550k here. NOPE.

You could find a short-sale or a condo for that price in DE.

The townhome we are buying is 160k, and is in a nice neighborhood, 3br, 2.5ba, tons of space, etc.

@gingerbreadgirl:  Ha…I wish. Even a basic townhouse would be in the $300,000+ range where I live. I am always so jealous of the people on the House Hunters show on TV. They dare to complain about these beautiful houses being sold for peanuts! Makes me want to move.

Yup. Easily. Our place was under 100k for 4br, 2 bath, huge finished basement, granite counter tops, 2 car garage, quarter acre lot. But we’re smack in the middle of the midwest.

Hah! Is this a joke? Maybe a shanty. Something updated, in a nice neighborhood with good schools, and a yard would have been $350k-ish. We ended up moving an hour away and now I commute to work.

I just sold my 1925 bungalow with 2 bd/1ba .3 acre on a river with a detached 2 car garage for $130,000 last year.  It was a cute little house and had lots of updates (still an outdated 1970s kitchen though).

In the area I live now, yeah you could buy a home for that price. But the schools in the district aren’t the best. They aren’t the worst either, but they kind of suck! The area I’ll be moving to after I get married also has nice houses for that price and less. The schools are a LOT better. The cost of living is way less.

Oh geez I wish…  A house for 125K in my area would get maybe a shack.  I have lived down south where you can find a mansion for 125K.  Crazy!

Sure, but I wouldn’t consider that area very safe

$125,000 will get you a 1bd/1ba mobile home in my city. 😛 We’re a suburb of LA close to the beach.

we just paid $102,000 for our house. it was built in ’99 and has three bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full basement, 2-car garage, pole barn, and is on 3 acres. great school district and is out in the country. we both have to commute an hour plus to work, but we both think it’s worth it.
