What is the material? If it is a cotton or jersey, I would say it is probably fine as is. If it is chiffon or another formal fabric, I would wear the cardigan or something. Make sure to wear your hair down or something, it will make it look more casual ๐Ÿ™‚ Its very pretty!

It’s iffy for me if you can dress it down. It’s actually not a maxi dress – a term used for a more casual long dress.  It’s a chiffon evening gown.

Is the shower in the evening? Will the other guests be somewhat dressed up too?

If I were to dress it down, I would do exactly as you suggested- blue jean jacket and flat sandals.

I think all your ideas are great. I’m also thinking a braided leather belt might Be a good option if your version has the same cinched waist.

Maxi dresses are usually fine just by themselves. People can dress them up with heels or something, but a dress like that can easily look more casual with a cute pair of sandals and your hair in a simple style.

You could have an understated look…. loose curls, a leather braided belt, very neutral  makeup, make a statement necklace if you were to also wear a denim jacket.

Even if you are a little over the top, as long as the bride give you the all clear… as host you should be a little more put together than the guests, you planned the party!

I think the trick would be to keep that jean jacket fitted, add a belt or my personal preference would be for a couple of long strand necklaces

@Mollytov:  Like minds! I was just going to say a darker jean or leather jacket. Maybe a funky, bright colored belt. Oh, and sandals.
