What are your thoughts. We’re thinking about starting TTC around Christmas/new years but I want to be able to drink over the holidays. Not to mention everyone is going to be wondering why i’m not drinking. So i’m wondering if i should put it off till the next month or if i could just limit it to a few glasses. What about DH – I know alcohol can effect sperm so should he just avoid getting drunk and limit himself as well?

I think as far as we know, it’s safe, but honestly, if I was actively TTC, and during a time in my cycle where I *could* be pregnant, I would not drink.
As for your Darling Husband, it’s less important for him, as he’s not carrying a developing embryo/fetus 🙂

@Kate0558: I believe for some people who have had trouble conceiving, cutting out alcohol is a suggestion. Darling Husband and I got pregnant accidentally and we were both drinking socially up until I found out I was pregnant. In fact I had a few jaeger bombs a week before my bfp and a big glass of wine the night before. I think it would be alright to continue to drink. Just don’t overdo it.

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
I wouldn’t get fall-on-my-face drunk, but a cocktail or two is no big deal.

@Kate0558: lots of babies are conceived while under the influence! Go for it. I’m in the drink til it’s pink club – once you get a positive test time to stop.

@Kate0558: Some women believe in the “drink til it’s pink” rule and some don’t. Neither one is wrong. It’s a personal preferences. As a PP said many babies conceived from very tanked up nights, lol.
For me, personally, I didn’t care if Darling Husband drank, but I chose not to. I am not a big drinker anyway, but I chose not to have drinks when we went out because I wanted to make sure I had all my bases covered, or at least most of them.

It depends on who you talk to. But from my understanding, until you share a blood supply with the baby, it dosn’t matter. So as long as your aren’t adversly affecting your health by getting sloppy drunk all the time, you should be fine drinking at the Holiday parties. Cheers and Good Luck!

@Kate0558: We won’t be TTC for at least another year, but you can bet your buns I will be drinking (1-2 drinks, nothing crazy) until we actually conceive. You already have to go without alcohol for the better part of a year when you KNOW you’re pregnant, (though, I might try the half a glass of wine thing in the third trimester if I decide it won’t make me too anxious) so why deprive yourself beforehand? Also, like others have said: many babies are conceived under the influence of alcohol, and the vast majority are just fine.
So, I’d say drink thoughtfully and make merry this holiday season!

I would absolutely be drinking!

No reason not to drink IMO. Some people who have difficulty conceiving might advised to abstain but otherwise there is no reason to.
LOTS of women drink before they find out they’re pregnant and everything is perfectly fine.

@Kate0558: I drank during my TWW, never got loaded but definitely had a few drinks! The night before I got my BFP (I tested early) I had 3 martinis and a glass of wine! I am definitely in the drink till its pink category! Unless you have fertility issues then I dont think its a problem!

@Kate0558: My doctor said to have as much or as little as I wanted for the first two weeks of my cycle, but not to drink during the second two weeks of my cycle.
But other women go ahead and drink ’till it’s pink! (I had my last drink on CD20, and got my BFP on CD26, for reference. Baby is fine!)

Personally, I avoid alcohol in the latter part of my TWW, but that’s just me. I’m not a big drinker to begin with, so no one would question me not drinking.

We are TTC now and I am not avoiding alcohol. During the TWW, yes, I’m concious of what I drink, but for the most part I am ‘drink til it’s pink.’
