I want to get a piece of jewelry plated before a big trip in a few days. I’m wondering if any of the big chain stores offer a super fast plating service?
also, who do you think offers the most affordable rhodium plating (if you don’t already have a care plan)?

@nerdybird: I’m obviously from a different area, but I’ve taken my rings to a local, small, family owned jewelery shop and they were able to do the rhodium plating very quick. I got the rings back 2 days after dropping them off. It was $25/ring. I think you may have better luck with a smaller store than a big chain one that has to send their work out to a seperate jeweller. If there’s one on site, I think they’ll be a lot quicker.

unfortunately, that doesn’t really happen in seattle. in my experience, chain stores are cheaper than local, by a lot. kind of like how wal-mart is cheaper than a local mom and pop store.
I have a small jeweler I trust, but anything takes 1-2 weeks because she has to send it out. I was asking about a chain store since they all seem to be the same across the country. I also kind of wanted to see what rhodium pricing would be for a chain store compared to my person.
anyone?

I would check more local jewelers. I have a couple who will do it as I wait for about $20-25 which I hear is low but that’s what I pay. Good luck. Keep looking and calling around.

I’m not sure where you are located, but I took a ring to a Kay jewelers for rhodium and they had it back to me in a week. Not sure if that helps….

A lot of chain stores can do it, but not all of them have electroplating equipment. I’d just call around.

Like Hyperventilate said, just call around. There are stores that I know do it in minutes and stores that take days because they send it out.

My local jeweler set my stone AND rhodium dipped the ring for $50. He had it ready overnight, mostly because it is the busy time of year and I didnt take it in until 5:00 PM (they close at 5:30.)

Have you tried a local jewellery shop? My guy does it for free in 2 hours because that’s where I got my ring, but he usually only charges £8 for the same service. They might be more flexible than a chain place?
