I am taking this ring in to get an appraisal on it. I do not know the center stone’s size but does anyone want to take a guess as to what size this sapphire is? I have a size 6 finger. I do know that the stone is oval.

I think the carat weight of sapphire is different than the weight of diamonds, so I don’t know, but if it were a diamond I’d guess the center stone to be .75ish?

@Rubbs: +1. I thought it looked like a .75 too.

I would say .75-1 ct. Sapphires are smaller than diamonds in equal carat weight so a 1 carat sapphire looks smaller than a 1 carat diamond.
Also, you could measure it in mm and find a chart that shows approximate carat weight of sapphire according to diameter.

I would say 1.25 sapphire since corundum is more dense than diamonds, it looks to have good depth as well. You must let us know when you find out!

@jessyrez: Saphires have different densities and cuts than diamonds do, but if it were a diamond I would guess .5 carats.

is it an oval? I would guess .4-.5.

I’d think it is about a .75-1 carat equivalent. Sapphires seem smaller than diamonds of the same size becase they are darker and less scintillating.

Sapphires are denser than diamonds…. So a sapphire will have a higher carat weight than a fismond with the same dimensions. I think the center stone probably weighs 1 carat?

Sapphires and rubies are denser than diamonds. I say 1 carat, or very slightly lower.
