I would ask your grandparents what they would like.  I know my grandfather, since he’s started having trouble walking, doesn’t really like people staring at him.  So I will just make sure he is situated, and he is not going to be making a grand entrance or anything.  I plan to walk around a lot during dinner to talk to people, so I will check on my grandfather in that way.

He’ll be 94!!!  Wowza.

I think it sounds like a very thoughtful idea.

Your grandmother should be seated at the same time as anyone else sitting at the head table.

I think old people just want to sit back and watch everyone else enjoy themselves…but they want to be included.  So making sure they have food, that they’ve got their gin and tonics, and that people keep coming over to them that they like…that’s important.  I was at a graduation party the other week and there was this old guy in the corner…so I offered to get him a plate of food.  It turned out he was the girl’s grandfather — her mom was like, omg thanks I couldn’t get over there!  He was grateful, she was grateful, I felt like a saint, lol.

I’ll be seeing my grandpa this week!  =)  He and I traveled in Europe together in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007…so I am so excited he’ll be there for my wedding.

Lol I don’t know about hip.  Set in his ways, more like.  He and my grandmother went to England every year from 1964 to 1990.  She got sick in 1991 and died that year (insert tears, a million sad faces, etc).  He continued to travel to England after that; they have friends there and everything.  So I went with him to England and then parts of Europe in 2004, back in 2005 for a funeral/vacation, back in 2006 to see friends and travel, and then in 2007 my dad came with us and we went to Scotland.  I can’t believe it’s been five years since I went to the UK!!!  My passport isn’t even valid anymore =(

Are you close with your father’s mom, though?
