Im trying to come up with my wedding day timeline… but as I’ve never done this before, I’m not sure if its doable. My fiance and I are going to do a first look… and we’re going to have a pretty laid back, quick ceremony. Have a look and let me know what you think
130pm – couples first look, get pictures taken together
300pm – Wedding party joins, get pictures taken
430pm – Head to Ceremony, make up and hair touch ups
500pm – Ceremony
530pm – Family pictures – guests can go in for cocktails, we’ll join once we’re done with fam pics
630 – Dinner begins to be served – we’re doing buffet
715/730 – Speeches
800 – Dance starts
—- I also want the photographer to get some pictures of Shane and I getting ready with our party beforehand. So the morning I was hoping would look like this
9am – start getting ready – will have hair stylist and makeup artist come to my house hopefully
12pm – Photographer is with boys taking pictures getting ready
1230pm – photographer with girls taking pictures getting ready.
Thanks for looking, Please let me know if I need to allocate more/less time to anything.

I dont know if its just me but you will have on your dress a whole 4 hours before the wedding?

I would think an hour and a half of couples pictures and then another half of the bridal party sounds really intense. I would think that half an hour of each would be enough. Do you have your photographer for 10 hours? Did you want them there for any of the dancing part of the reception?

@mcklough: so how much time should I allocate for times for Fiance and I to get pictures and then how long for bridal party? We have our photographer for 8 hours. With the way I broke it down we’d have them from 12 until 8. They’d be there for the first dance only.

I think a half an hour each would suffice, but I guess I don’t know you guys, how much you like being photographed, where you want pictures taken, how many you want.
I’m coming from a place where my Fiance hates having his picture taken. We are doing a first look so we’ll maybe do an hour before hand and then 30 after the ceremony with family

I agree with the PP’s. It seems like an excessive amount of time spent on posed pictures…1.5 of just you two, 1.5 with bridal party, and then another hour with family? You could really get a TON of awesome pictures of all of the above in an hour and a half time slot.
Personally, I love candid reception pictures. I would certainly sacrifice the 1.5 hrs of getting ready pictures (how many pictures are you really going to want of you getting your hair done?) and some of the posed pictures so that you could have the photographer throughout the majority of the reception.
Of course, it is your day and if you prefer posed over candid shots and guest shots then do what makes YOU happy! 🙂

This pretty similar to the timeline I did up. We have our photographer for 12 hours. Our engagement shoot took two hours and it flew by. I’m definitely planning to ask my photographer for advice though.

Ask your photographer for their advice. Ours wanted at least an hour for shots of the two of us. We have ours for 8 hours but it helps because we are getting ready at the venue itself. We also have two photographers so they can do the getting ready shots at the same time. This is my timeline so far:
2pm Getting ready shots
2:30pm First look/couple shots
3:30pm Wedding Party Shots
4pm Family Shots
10pm Send off
It will also help things move quicker if you are organized with a list of pictures you want taken for the wedding party and family and then order them so the fewest number of people have to be resitatued/enter/leave the picture.

My husband and I did pictures for an hour, and then had the wedding party join us for half an hour for wedding party pictures. Then the bridal party went back to the hotel while we did family pictures for half an hour. It worked out perfectly. I don’t think you need 1 1/2 hours for bridal party pics…unless you really want to do it.
