Hi all, so BF and I are trying to lose weight together. We got back on the wagon yesterday but I screwed up for lunch today and got McDonald’s. And now I’m kicking myself over that. Ugh.
Anyway. Currently BF and I have a couples membership to the Y and I try to go to Zumba class at least twice a week. But I hate it. Well, let me clarify. I like the actual Zumba itself, when I can keep up.
But I am the heaviest woman in the class. By far. I’m 25 years old, 5’5 and I weigh 289 pounds. And I hate not being able to keep up with everyone else and I feel so self-conscious. In that Zumba class full of skinny women (no disrespect to you skinny bees, I promise), I feel so much heavier than I do normally.
When I don’t go to Zumba, I try to go swimming but that’s not much of a workout either because the pool at the Y is ALWAYS filled with kids and families. And the swimming lanes are usually already taken. So trying to do laps back and forth is difficult.
BF is also wanting us to go walking in the trails behind my apartment. It’s about a mile walk one-way, I think. I haven’t done that yet but we will be implementing that this week, hopefully.
In the meantime, can y’all recommend good workout dvds? I would love to get a really good workout in the privacy of my own apartment, where I don’t have to worry about keeping up and feeling embarassed. But I’m not sure which kind to get, because I do live on the second floor and I wouldn’t want to piss off my downstairs neighbors.
But I work a 9:00 to 5:00 job so any workout that I do would normally be right after work so maybe I wouldn’t piss off my neighbors too much since I’m not doing the workout at a late hour.
Anyway, let me know what you think! I do know that I do NOT like yoga. I prefer workouts like Zumba and the Just Dance Wii games. I’m also open to trying stuff like Jillian Michaels since I heard that she is really good. So hit me with your recommendations, please! 🙂

Try Jillian dvds. They are only 25-35 minutes long and she has modifications for some of her moves if you find its too much to begin with. You will be able to work on strength and endurance. My fav is the 30 day shred! You can order on amazon for cheap! Good luck 🙂

TurboFire! Chalene Johnson is so fun and the workouts fly. They are great cardio, and 15-50 minutes. (You can buy it from beachbody).

Thanks guys! I bought the 30 day shred from Walmart tonight and I will be starting day one tomorrow! 🙂

@LadyBlackheart: Yes! Do it. Push yourself. If you can’t keep up, even with the modified moves, just keep ur body moving and ur heart rate up.

@LadyBlackheart: 30DS is so effective, stick with it you’ll be so glad you did, it can be hard but you will honestly see results after a week, as a PP said even if you’re modifying just make sure you keep moving. Let us know how you go 🙂

Thanks guys! I can’t wait to try it out for the first time today after I get off work. Also, do you think it would be too ambitious to try to go for a walk after I do the 30 day shred workout? I want to but I’m not sure how I’ll feel after the workout. We shall see!
@JackiBean: I will try TurboFire eventually but if it involves a lot of jumping around, it might not be a good idea. Lol I live on the second floor of an apartment building and I would probably piss off my neighbors quite a bit!
And yep, I am already on myfitnesspal. I tried to send you a request via the app but I couldn’t do it. Can you find me instead? My username is Kelser87

I agree with everyone else that said Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred! You’ll definitely get a good workout! 🙂

@LadyBlackheart: Haha, yeah, I forgot about that. I’m on the first floor, so I don’t have to worry about that.
I’ve also heard P90x is great. It’s smaller workouts and more mixed up. Tony Horton includes a lot of yoga in there as well. I have friends who swear by it.
I will find you!

P90X is super hard, I was definitely hurting the day after I did that DVD (I know you’re supposed to do it for 90 days but I was just wanting to get in a good workout instead of going to the gym as usual that day).
I also really like the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders workout DVDs… trying to remember the choreography on the cardio DVDs distracts me from the workout and keeps my brain stimulated =). It’s just fun, and a fun workout is a great workout!

If you can’t keep up with Zumba then you won’t be able to keep up with 30 Day Shred. You should probably start with some online Spark People workouts instead.

LadyBlackheart No, but what I can recommend is a FREE workout youtube channel! Check out ZWOW on youtube and get ready for intensity it brings! BEst part is being able to be in your own home and that the instructor is very good at explaning things and from time to time will tell you how tired SHE is! I love her workouts and they don’t require dancing. I would seriously look her up because I doubt you would have any regrets! Just remember that when working with weights it is best to start light and to only move up when using the light weights is easy and you are able to comeplete the workout faster!

@LadyBlackheart: Side Note: ZWOW workouts are REALLY short and most are only 30 minutes at most!
