I’m also kind of curious, b/c Darling Husband got a shirt for his birthday that he LOVES, but after wearing it a couple times, he noticed a huge rip in the seam of the sleeve! Thankfully, I was able to fix it, but I’m curious what other people would do? Try to fix it? Pay someone to fix it? Go through the bother of returning it to the store? Throw it out?
I’d probably fix something like my Fiance ripped a big hole in his winter coat after owning it for less than a month so I mended it. I’ve ripped holes in inconspicuous areas in my jeans and patched them with my sewing machine. I’m not great at either hand sewing or machine sewing, but I could improve if I were interested in doing such.
I am the designated sewer in the house. It took me a lot of youtube videos to really master a nice button and hole stitch up. I really can just do survival sewing , nothing super fancy or creative
I even altered my own wedding dress, but thats cause I’m insane and cheap 😉
I got an A in home economics for my hand sewing abiities and I’ve made a pair of sleep/lounge pants on a sewing machine. I can’t really do any fancier than that though.
I’d love to buy a sewing machine and use it for craft type projects though.
I’ve made a few blankets and some renaissance dresses, and sewn on more military name badges and insignias than I want to even think about. But for some reason, I hate trying to fix ripped seams! I’ll always give it a shot, but I can’t guarantee it looks like it did before the rip happened. 🙁 Kudos to you for fixing his shirt instead of tossing it, though! 🙂
I took a sewing class in jr. high, high school and college. I can sew, but I don’t like to sew (not great at it, I just know enough to get by). I much prefer to shop for my clothes! lol! I will hem and repair things, but I don’t make clothing.
yes, i can hand sew and i have 2 sewing machines and a serger. i make a lot of kids outfits (belle princess/ballet/christmas pagents stuff) because i enjoy this type of sewing more but i made 2 sexy mrs claus outfits (with slightly longer skirts) last month for co workers and ive made curtains, wedding ring pillows and garters for friends
also hubby often comes to me with a idea for something for his scuba equip and i make it out of neoprene/lycra/webbing & brass clips and then his buddies ask for it as well – thats why i have 2 machines, one i dont care about if it breaks
I was going to be a home ec teacher the first time I went to university. I ended up changing careers because the classes were so boring.
I have sewn pretty much everything including several sets of bridesmaid dresses for friends and a suit for my son.
yes! been sewing since i was probably like 3 years old.
Can I bloody hell.
I can hand sew pretty well. I also got a sewing machine recently and have been learning to use it. Made some pillow recently, and maybe will do some curtains next. Nothing complicated, just straight lines 🙂
I can do basic things, I really want to learn more though (: my mom is going to teach my over my school’s Christmas holidays
yes. I started to learn when I was about 4 and got my first sewing machine when I was 9.
but I have no patience. I made clothes in college when I was poor. but I’d rather buy them now that I can afford it. now I only sew if I need something I can’t find in the stores. and I tend to alter things very often.
