I am in the process of trying to chose a first dance song for me and my future husband. I’m also looking for a nice song to dance to my dad with.
Could you share what your wedding song is and your father/daughter dance?
Also are you doing a choreographed song or just swaying back and forth?

Our song will be “love is just a touch away” by Freddie Jackson. We have a video of us singing the song together when I was 5 and it will play on the projector screen as we dance. May break out a surprise choreographed number but haven’t decided yet.

We tooka dance class to learn proper posture and turns. Our dance was not choreographed but it wasn’t swaying. We had a couple fancy steps and I let him lead, read the step he wanted. We danced to Never Gonna Let You Down by Colbie Calliett. The father daughter dance was Oh, What a Beautiful World

Our first dance song is “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday” by Spiral Staircase. It’s not a slow dance though. We’re not choreographing anything, just going with it. Fiance and I always have fun dancing like crazy at weddings and this will be no exception.
Our father/daughter dance song is “You Are My Sunshine” by Johnny Cash.

- Wedding: September 2017 - St.Matthews Church, Hants, UK
We’re having Somewhere In Neverland (Acoustic) by All Time Low as our first dance. I’m well known for being a keen dancer and everyone expects a routine so we’re toying with a couple of styles at the moment. Yes, we have 18 months to go but it’ll take that long to teach OH (he has two left feet on a good day, bad days I’d say he has 3).
‘White Wedding’ as the Daddy/Daughter dance (with all other father/daughter pairs joining us) requires little-to-no effort as Dad and I can just do whatever.

“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli

We used home by Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeroes. We had choreography and only used part of the song. I love every time I hear it now

We danced to a Johnny Cash cover of the First Time ever I Saw Your Face. No choreography.

In spite of ourselves By john prine- Very non-traditional, but very us. We are going to do more than “sway” but not sure what yet. Fiance bought us dance lessons last year for V-day so we know a few moves we may incorporate

Love Song by the Cure for myself and husband
The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra for father daughter (which I had to pick on the fly I didn’t think we were going to do a F/d dance and then my father asked for it and I picked it off the top of my head

We danced to ‘Best Friend’ by Jason Mraz.
I had never heard it before, but loved it as soon as I heard it. Now we have the lyrics printed and framed (from my MOH) hanging in our hallway. Whenever I’m feeling a tad annoyed with my new hubby (gasp) I read them and remember that day and all the reasons I love him! =) Happy wedding planning!

We’ll be having our first dance to ‘Never tear us apart’ by INXS. We’ll be learning a routine for sure!

Our first dance was a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” by Janet Devlin. (listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0gOuuZ_8zI)
Father/daughter dance was “To Sir With Love.”
Yeah, we just swayed. I’ve never taken dancing lessons, so there was no way I was going to learn enough in a few months to actually look good. Keep it short and sweet and you’ll be fine.
Other songs we considered for the dances: “You’re My Best Friend” by Freddy Mercury, “She’s a Rainbow” and “Wild Horses” by the Stones.

Father/Daughter – “You’ll be in my heart” by Phil Collins
First dance – “You & Me” by Lifehouse (we both grew up in the 90’s and this was def a old favorite of ours back in the day!) 🙂
And we swayed and talked – we didn’t feel the need to put on a show, but just to enjoy the moment.
