@misabell:  what does that mean  – moissy has more depth?

@patchy:  Moissy on left and I could tell before the video ever started. The stone is gorgeous but it’s not a diamond.

This is my moissanite ring. To me it actually looks better than a diamond, its flawless =) Mine is not enhanced and it is SUPER white. The center stone is a .55 ct. I’ve heard if you get 1ct or more then you can see slight color in it unless you get it enhanced.

it depends what type of diamond you’re talking about. the extra faceted diamonds…such as helzberg radiant star vs moissanite…i cant really tell. but a regular faceted diamond…yes. moissanite sparkles way more.

I’ve only seen a few-one from JTV and JCPenney. I couldn’t tell with my eye but with a loupe one can see the double refraction. If someone is sporting  a big “diamond” appearing ring in the 1.25 or +range and it appears flawless-one would think its probably a cz/moissanite or other sim, depending on circumstances. If it’s a slightly yellow or green tinged large stone that would give it away as a moissanite too.

Think people very familar with moissanite/cz could probably tell fairly easily especially in a larger stone.

Before I got my moissanite, I couldn’t tell, at least not in pictures. But when comparing my moissanite to my mom’s diamond, in certain lighting, I can see the difference.

Either way, both are beautiful stones.

patchy :  the one on the left is Moissy. You can tell by the flashes of color. Diamonds cast blue (not reflecting off clothing etc.) and Moissy cast blue, red, yellow etc. Having worked in the jewelry biz for years I know what to look for. I have both and no one would ever be able to tell. Moissy is essentially a perfect diamond except it’s reflective color and cut. Overall a Moissy is “darker” when next to a perfectly white (colorless) diamond. My Moissy looks nice next to my VS1 H color diamonds.

CorgiTales :   misabell :  Please explain what you mean when referring to how “deep” moissanite isn’t, or how it lacks “depth.” Are you referring to the distance between the table and culet of the stone?

carbear02 :  Oh my! I just now noticed your question after asking the same question! LOL

I also see that the question goes back five years, so am unlikely to get an answer. If anyone else references moissanite(s) in terms of “lacking depth,” please feel free to explain.

I’m awful at guessing. Wouldn’t be able to tell from a diamond, moissanite, or CZ 🙁 i just like shiny objects

I can only tell with the princess and cushion cuts (the rainbows give it away). I think they are both beautiful though, and am tempted to get an OEC moissy for a right hand ring.

My bf’s sister has a moissy e ring and I had no idea it was not a diamond at first. I have eagle vision and can see the difference in refraction when compared side by side looking at them closely, but I probably wouldn’t be able to tell seeing it on someone out and about in everyday life circumstances.

Best part about moissanite; not blood on your hands.

Most people won’t be able to tell the difference no matter WHAT they say (unless they are inspecting your ring with a microscope).  Even jewelers have messed it up on ‘first glance’ from what I’ve heard (and no, I dont have a  moissanite personally).
