Cherrycoke, I am a colorist with Redken, in my opinion the greatest color company especially for gloss/toners! You can tone your hair a darker shade, quite a few shades darker and it is MUCH healthier for your hair. Toners are great to try a color if you’re unsure you’ll like it because they are semi/demi permanent, meaning they last about 4-5 weeks. However, I would suggest toning your hair if you’re happy with the color about 3-4 days before the big day because they tend to fade!! Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!

I get a demi hair color in my hair.  I usually get it done every 2-2.5 months.  I like the demi because it’s gentle on my hair and it fades out nicely.  My hair was blonde for awhile…  the blonde used to come through once the brown demi faded, but now it just fades to a lighter reddish/brown.  I recommend it!

Cherrycoke, Toners/glosses are significantly cheaper, and demi permanent’s can be the same priced as regular dye. In my opinion, the ombre look (darker on the top, slightly lighter on the bottom) is very trendy right now and can be achieved with a gloss/toner on preexisting highlights. So, start with a toner to be sure you love the color and then move onward to a demi permanent dye. I promise you, if they’re using a high end color it is not going to damage your hair, they can actually be extremely conditioning.

No, toners will darken what’s previously there. Therefore your highlights will still be lighter than your darker strands, and create a multidimensional look. A toner is the perfect recipe for a client with grown out highlights that still want a dimensional result.

eyedobeauty :  I have a question for you! I highlighted my hair but the roots are much lighter than the ends (that had previous color on them) and I’m trying to decide to use a light or dark toner. I want to bleach the ends one more time but will a dark toner make the ends darker as well or will it even out the color throughout the strand of hair?

Thank you!

I have a question!!!! I went to a friend who use to do hair in a salon and is now a stay at home mom. She did the balyage look on me. I have dark brown hair naturally and she ended up bleaching my hair to get the color I wanted. Well the color I wanted was more of a caramel color and now my hair is bleached blonde!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜”. She said she needed a different toner than what she was using to darken the ends. So she is going to come over today to fix it. But I’m SO mervous. Can a toner really darken hair? Because I need it a lot darker. Is there anything else you would recommend?
