(Closed) Can you transfer credit history?

You don’t need to “transfer” history…your history is tied to your SSN, not your bank. You won’t lose your good credit by switching to another bank.

I’m pretty sure you can’t transfer the age of the card, just the balance (in some cases). I know a lot of people that have old cards but only use them once in a blue moon to keep the credit history.

Edit: By credit history I mean the average age of your open credit lines, which is what I assumed you were talking about but I could be wrong!

I’m pretty sure your good credit history factors into your credit score.. and that is all that the Credit Union will look at. But I could be very wrong. Oh and you SHOULD key word SHOULD get a better rate by changing from big bank to credit union.

You can’t transfer the credit history lenght so keep the card open.

Your credit is tied to your social security number, not your bank.  So you should be able to change banks and get a card with your new bank without problem.

But I wouldn’t close the old card from Bank A because your credit score would likely take a hit from losing a card that had a long history (time/age wise).
