I am pretty sure I have had a nickel allergy all my life. When i was a kid I couldn’t wear some watches with metal backs because I would break out with a rash. It wasn’t until this summer that my nickel allergy now doesn’t let me wear 10k white gold which is what my wedding set is in. (I got engaged in March 2016 and was able to wear my white gold ring everyday no problem) Rose gold is my next option as Platinum is to expensive and I’m not to big a fan of yellow gold. Anywho I am curious has anyone with a nickel allergy gotten rose gold? Did it work for you? Thanks in advance!

Hey I recently got a rose gold engagement ring and am having some issues with it being slightly irritating. I could never wear nickel as a kid either.

I am allergic to copper/nickel. My engagement ring is 18 K gold and it kept discoloring my finger. I had it plated (inner part of band is coated in another metal) with rhodium, but platinum plating is an option as well. Both will eventually wear of and it will need to be replated.

DH has a nickel allergy and the inside of his ring is rose gold.
I think it may vary brand to brand–as long as there’s gold and copper it’s rose gold, so I’m sure different brands put different “other” metals in.

It depends on the alloys that a jeweler uses in their rose gold, but the majority of the time there is not nickle. The rose gold is mixed with gold, cooper, zinc and silver. The most common metal allergy is nickle.

Should not be a problem. My mom has a nickel allergy and a 14k rose gold set. She hasn’t had a problem. You would have an issue if you had a copper allergy though.

Yes you can just ask what the alloy is. If you have a copper allergy its going to be a problem.

I’m allergic to nickel, especially in earrings. Rose gold and platinum are the only metals that don’t bother me!

I know you said platinum is too expensive. However, it’s probably worth the investment in the event the rose gold is still irritating.

Thank you everyone for all your help! I am honestly not sure if I have a problem with copper? I have worn a Sterling silver necklace for almost 5 years now with no problem and I have Sterling silver earrings on and when I Google what’s in Sterling silver it’ usually mixed with copper, but I can’ know for sure if like has copper. I also wore a ring about 2 months ago that was costume jewelry. I had to stop cause it turned my finger green and I think that happens cause there is copper in the ring?
