Hey bees, I need help to prove a point.
As much as I can remember, NONE of my boyfriends (including my FI) knows how to sew a button on a shirt. They would all hand them to me to fix (or would get rid of the shirt, or wear it without the button). I’m taking a course a work and we have to teach something in 10 minutes. I decided to teach how to sew on a button – most of the people in the class are male. The instructor basically told me that my topic isn’t acceptable (not in those words, but that was the gist), especially since most of the people are male.
I figure that it’s a good topic that I can teach easily (I have 10 minutes), and most guys don’t know how to do it. My question to you is whether or not your Fiance can sew a button on, or does he give it to you (or his mom) to fix?

He sews (has made a vest), he knits, he can change a tire! He’s the renaissance man! I’m lucky that way. I think your teacher is misguided on this one.

nope – he has a good greek momma and a wife with 3 sewing machines & a overlocker. he doesnt even attempt to put the string back into his hoodie and just gives it to me to fix
and i too think your teacher should let you do the class

I think that’s kinda sexist of your teacher! If you’d offered to teach them how to get a woman’s bra off, would that be ok? LOL you khow what i mean
I think Darling Husband knows how to sew a button–he is in the Army after all and they have to wing a lot of things in the field. If not, well, at least for his uniform I bet he takes it to the seamstress on base.
I wouldn’t call him “crafty” by ANY means tho

Hubby is sitting next to me so I asked him. I know he always gives me his buttons to sew on, or his mom, but I didn’t know if thats because he didn’t know how or didn’t like to. So, he said he cant. When I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt saying he could probably figure it out, he shook his head with a face as to say that I’m nuts or something. He said he’d have to look it up online lol

My dad learned to sew in the Marines, and my Air Force fiance also has some skills. They’re probably both better at it than me.

i don’t think my fi ever learnt. actually he seems quite surprised that i do know how to.

ha, i just asked, he said “nope, but my mom can” guess he and i better learn so we aren’t sending shirts to england all the time!
EDIT: I just re-read and heck yes that’s an acceptable topic, men and women should both know! In fact, Mr,D has WAY more patience than I do, so I imagine he’d be better at it than I. WTF. You’re teaching soemthing, a usefull skill no less; ask your instructor why he thinks it isn’t acceptable!!?!?

He’d give it to me to fix, but he could do it… hes becoming doctor so he’d better be able to stitch!

My hubby is not as crafty as some (Go Mr. DG!) but he was a military man so he cooks, cleans, irons, shines shoes, and does minor sewing. The other day he asked for my sewing kit because his bike glove had torn, and I swelled up with housewifely pride and said, “Oh, do you want me to fix that for you, baby?” He said, “Pfft, no, I can do this myself.” Haha. 🙂

I’m sorry to un-prove your point, but my fiance sews better than i do! He irons for me, he sews buttons, and he actually laughed at me when i hemmed my own pants! haha… I knew I wasn’t doing it correctly, but I had to do it to save face! Aaah! I am lucky to have him! haha

I *think* Fiance could do it if he absolutely had to. That being said, I can’t promise you it’ll be pretty.

LOL, great topic for teaching guys! We have had this discussion many times- my fi is a vet and can suture up cats and dogs very nicely, but has yet to sew a button on his shirts. I am sure he could if he had to, but he has always said that either myself or his mom do it better, and what can I say- we are suckers for that one!

He can sew a button, something that I actually don’t know how to do! I also can’t iron, which he does in our house.

I’m sure that my fiance could not sew a button on if you paid him. I do that kind of stuff around our place. He is GREAT at ironing though, and I cannot do that to save my life!
