We are addressing our invitations right now. We are putting a label with the guest’s address on the front of the envelope and our return address on the top left corner of the envelope. I wanted to put a sticker with our names on the back of the envelopes to make it a little bit more personalized, but my Fiance tells me that the back is often reserved for the return address and it will confuse the post office and the invitations won’t get delivered properly and in time. Does anyone know if he’s right? Can I put a sticker/label at the back of the envelope?
In case if it helps, I got the stickers from Vista Print and they are really address labels, but instead of the addresses I put our names and our wedding date.

No you guys should be fine.
I mark letters to my sweetie “SWAK” on the back over the seal and they’re fine
I do however mark the to as “TO” and from label with “From.. just to be double sure

@Oneeleven: He’s still not convinced 🙂 But thank you 🙂

Because the standard in Canada is to have the return address in the top left hand corner, which is what you’re doing, I don’t see how having something on the back will make a difference. Maybe check with your local post office just to make sure, but I really don’t see it causing a problem…

I can’t see how what’s on the back would make a difference.
I always put the return address in the top left corner of the front of the envelope. Never heard of it being on the back.

We did our return address on the back of the envelopes for our thank yous and a few of them got delivered to our house rather than to the recipients. So. Annoying. Canada Post sucks some times.

When I was living in England, I would put the return address on the back, which is standard I think EVERYWHERE but here in Canada. I was mailing a letter home, and I was told by the postmaster that our post offices are apparently really strict, adn the return address MUST be on the top left hand corner of the envelope. I wish we could have return addresses on the back. I would love to do a wrap around address label…

Thank you, Bees! I feel a lot better and although Fiance is still not really convinced, I think we’ll add the stickers at the back 🙂

Shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve received things with stickers on the back (a seal, today), as well as return mailing addresses on the back flap.
warning though: Canada Post still hasn’t successfully worked its way through their post-strike backlog. We sent our invites approx 1 week after they returned to work. My partner’s parents still don’t have their invite! However, the neighbours across the street do! There’s been no rhyme or reason with the delivery times at all; some people in the same neighbourhood received things 2 weeks apart that were sent on the same day, and they were checking their mail for them!

Back flap should be okay, we put our return addresses there, and no problems yet.
What I have noticed with Canada Post these last few weeks is that on less than half of the mail we get back has the stamp been cancelled. Is this something they don’t do anymore, or is it just in super-secret invisible ink?

@mile end: I got a couple letters recently that had uncancelled stamps – and then I flipped it over and they were cancelled on the back of the envelope (so technically I could have peeled those off and used them again – but I didnt, they were ugly, haha).

@Imagelicious: Aww, look at you!
By The Way – anyone else hate the new mailboxes? They look like they are full of graffiti.
