@AB Bride:  Hhmm… well it looks like you can get a certified copy of a “Marriage REGISTRATION” and not of the marriage certificate itself (it also gives you an option in the left hand column that takes you to how to order a Marriage Certificate) . So who knows if that is acceptable for the US.

@sienna76:  Hhmm… that is SO strange to me, but I guess they are both very different countries despite our similarities! What about ordering a couple of Marriage Certs and sending those in with your mailed applications? It must say you have to either send the original OR a certified copy of the original, right? It may be pricey to order more Marriage Certs, but I know BC Vital Statistics produces them very quickly (if you order to ship to Canada they usually arrive within a week).

@sienna76:  i ordered my certified marriage certificate online and it was mailed to me within a couple of weeks.  you can order just a copy or (yes) a certified marrige certificate.  not sure if all provinces are the same; this was in ontario.

@sienna76:  i didn’t change my name and don’t plan to.  we just got the certificate for our records.

i believe this is what you would need to change your name.  my gf got married just before me and she was waiting for her certificate before she could change her name.

Hmm, we received our Marriage Certificate in the mail too. I have to assume it’s certified, it looks fancy.

It’s funny, because when Darling Husband called to find out the process of getting the certificate and changing my name, the lady said to send BOTH applications in at once.  I got the marriage certificate then the new birth certificate (with my new name) about 4-5 days later.

Once I had the certificate and new birth certificate I’ve been able to go and change my name everywhere.

@Lyndzo: Question..do you have to change your birth certificate also? I find it strange that they change the birth certificate to your married name when you werent even born with your married name!

@sienna76:  i noticed you live in utah.  do you think that maybe it’s your mailing address that is making you not eligible?
