Mine is from Peoples! I’ve had good experiences with them. I have a lifetime warranty for my ring as long as I bring it in every 6 months so they can look it over/clean it. Coverage includes sizing, repairs and diamond replacement if I lose it.

@lavenderstone: I got a Canadian diamond at Birks. My husband said the one in downtown Toronto was super pushy and kept trying to get him to spend more (we had a firm budget), so he went to one outside of the city and had a great experience. I love it!

Ordered it from a Jeweler in California, bought the stone locally. We wanted a specific ring that was (as usual) marked up tremendously locally compared to in the states. We saved almost $2000 between the ering and wedding band ordering from the states even with insurance and shipping.

Mine is from People’s as well, and also came with the lifetime fixer-upper-diamond guarentee, but I don’t have to bring it in because Darling Husband also bought the extra ‘negligence’ insurance. The woman at People’s was truly amazing and that is the only location that I will go to, I find the rest of them rude. She make us feel so comfortable and welcome, and the only time she was the least bit pushy was when she told us the sale was ending in two weeks, which it was.

I also went to Ben Moss and there was a ring that I loved there, but it was fairly untraditional and sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with it, but then I remember how timeless I feel my set it.

Honestly I didn’t look around a whole lot because I didn’t think that it was acutally coming. I looked at Paris jewellers but they are disgustingly overpriced and the workers are overly rude.

I wish I would have taken a close look at Appelt’s. SIL and I recently replace the diamond in MIL’s engagement ring and they staff was amazing and the rpices were super reasonable.

I got it at a local store in our city. We are both big “buy local” people so it was important to us that it not be some big impersonal chain! I feel like we got good service from them and they even followed up by email a month or two later to see how we liked the ring.

I’m thinking of going to a family-run jeweller in Hamilton because I know exactly what kind of setting I want and haven’t seen it anywhere (although some are close), so it’ll probably have to be custom-made.  SO’s from Hamilton, so it’ll be convenient.  And I think we might be ordering the stone online, but we haven’t decided yet.

I’m curious about Spence though – there are so many commercials, but one of my former co-workers is very anti-Spence.  Do any bees have a ring from there?

@lavenderstone:  MY Darling Husband got my ring at Damiani Jewellers in the GTA (Ontario), and we bought our wedding bands at Spence Diamonds.

@lavenderstone:  Mine is from Spence Diamonds by Square One – can’t say enough good things about them.  My favourite jewellery store by far.  We went to a lot looking at rings and they were the friendliest, didn’t pressure, didn’t judge, and had the best selection IMO.

@lavenderstone:  Mappins and Peoples in PEI carry crap quality diamonds, and charge way too much for them.

We had my ring custom made on Etsy, it was the most amazing process. I got exactly what I wanted and we both got to be very involved in the process. 🙂

@ChicFoodist:  Yep, my e-ring and both our wedding bands.  I wasn’t involved with the e-ring at all, and just went with the matching wedding band though, so there wasn’t a ton I was there for.  The most time consuming thing was trying to get Darling Husband to pick his wedding band!

There were no problems, and the sales people were helpful.

ETA: Actually there is more to say!  I wanted a chain.  I know someone who had an issue with her ring, and was travelling right after getting it.  She couldn’t wear it or get it fixed until she got back.  I also like to be able to get it cleaned for free, and if we move I can still do that.  I haven’t been impressed with service at other chains.

Darling Husband did shop around, and he felt like Spence was the most helpful, didn’t push him to go more expensive, etc.
