Hi Hive (and Canadian Bees)
It looks like our QUIET Elopement to a Destination Wedding, with the whole idea going low key and quiet this time round… is going to have to change somewhat.
Mr TTR and I have been together for years (Canadian Common Law) and recently decided that we might want to get married.
Our Friends & Family are THRILLED FOR US… which is a good thing
But we’ve been fielding lots of Questions on… HOW COME an Elopement to a Destination Wedding and WHY are there are NO GUESTS invited
Lol, we thought we had this covered orginally…
1- Being an Encore Wedding for both of us (both having done the BIG Wedding before) we wanted something private and meanigful for just the 2 of us
2- We travel a lot, and we chose a spot that we both love (one of OUR Places) and we have chosen the Christmas Holidays because the timing is good, and we often go to said place in that timeframe
3- By being at Christmas, we assumed that EVERYONE else would have plans, and so wouldn’t feel left out
4- Lol, and we also thought that by eloping, we could keep costs down (still hoping that “might” be true)
From the get go, our original idea, was go away marry, have a mini-moon, and then come home to celebrate with friends & family (maybe by getting together for New Year’s Eve) before heading off on a much bigger Honeymoon later in January
BUT now it looks like there is no escaping the fact that our small idea of an Open House get-together isn’t going to fly
I jotted down just a quick list, and we easily are looking at 50 to 75 Friends wanting to rejoice with us.
An Open House therefore isn’t going to make it… as we just can’t accommodate that many At Home… because in January at -20 degrees the backyard isn’t an option as a spot to “spread out to”
So I am now beginning to come to grips with the fact that we need to plan an official Back-Home Reception that is more organized (Hall Rental – Cake & Champagne – Nibbles – Cash Bar – Decorations – DJ etc)
Which brings me to the first step in the process INVITATIONS
I’d like something with a Beachy Theme (which is central to our Elopement & Honeymoon). Beginning to “see” our Theme & Colour Palette to be… Surf & Shore / Sea & Sand … so tan, beige, champagne along with sea glass blue, turquoise, and a hint of navy.
Things have changed immensely since I was married last time (circa 1980) so I know my options are not just PROFESSIONALLY PRINTED INVITES. Which is a good thing, because I really don’t want to spend a ton of money… but still have them look good.
Willing to do them as a DIY Project, but haven’t a clue where to start.
Any help (links to examples, etc) or names of suppliers… particularly CANADIAN SUPPLIERS for Stationery needs would be appreciated.
PS… I have just signed up for a Pinterest Account… don’t have a clue HOW to use that website, but it does look interesting. (Have also discovered Design Seeds for colour inspiration also). Hoping to get a grip on these things, because I do need to work towards building a Theme and an Inspriration Board etc, now that I’ll be working towards a much larger Reception.
Lol, have a feeling this is now the FIRST of many posts, on getting this Reception off the ground… sooooo many details now to work thru.
